How to Remove the Background From a Photo (for Stores, Profiles and Designs)

Removing a background used to mean tracing edges by hand in a photo editor. Now an AI model does the cut-out in a few seconds, and what makes the result look professional is the photo you start with and the background you choose.

Choose the right background for the job

Step by step

1. Open the background remover and add a photo: JPG, PNG, WEBP or an iPhone HEIC picture, up to 30MB.
2. Click "Remove background". It usually takes 5 to 10 seconds; bigger photos take a little longer.
3. Compare before and after side by side. The checkered pattern behind the result shows the transparent areas.
4. Pick Transparent, White, Color or Blur. The preview changes instantly.
5. Download PNG or JPG. You get the full resolution, up to 4096 pixels on the longest side.

Start with a photo that cuts out cleanly

The AI finds the main subject by its shape and contrast. You get sharper edges when:

• The subject stands out from the background in color or brightness. A dark jacket against a dark wall is harder than against a light one.
• The photo is in focus, especially around the edges.
• The light is even. Strong backlight makes edges glow, and hard shadows can be kept as part of the subject.
• The whole subject is in the frame. A hand or a product cut by the edge of the photo will look cut in the result too.

Hair, fur and see-through objects (glass, veils, smoke) are the hardest parts for any tool. They usually come out well, but check them zoomed in.

Product photos for online stores

Many marketplaces ask for product images on a pure white background, and even where it is optional, white backgrounds make a catalog look consistent. A simple routine:

1. Photograph the product in daylight, filling most of the frame.
2. Remove the background and choose White.
3. Download the JPG. If the store asks for a specific size, adjust it with Resize image; if the file is too heavy, run it through the image compressor.

Profile pictures

A plain color behind your face looks tidy on LinkedIn, company websites and ID-style photos. Choose Color and pick something that contrasts with your hair and clothes: a soft blue or gray works for most people. For a friendlier look that still keeps the place, use Blur.

When a photo has two clear subjects (a person next to a car, for example), both are kept. Crop the photo around the subject you want before uploading it.

Can I use it with iPhone photos?
